New Year in Provincetown – First Light Celebration

Ring in the New Year at the tip of the Cape with Provincetown First Light.

Provincetown comes alive one last time with New Year’s revelers before settling into the winter season.

Restaurants, shops, bars, clubs will all be open. Events include dancing, special social events, and performers. The ladies of Illusions, Miss Richfield, Thirsty Burlington, Well-Strung, and Suede performed last year. Stay tuned for the 2018 – 2019 line-up!

The town’s fireworks display will light up the Provincetown Harbor on Jan 1 at dusk!

Polar Bear Plunge

 

What: Take out that summer swimsuit and take the annual Polar Bear Plunge challenge on New Year’s Day 2018! This tradition is the 3rd annual event and is part of the Provincetown First Light celebrations for New Years Weekend 2017 – 2018. Registration proceed benefit the Center For Coastal Studies. For a look at last year’s plunge, check out the event Facebook Page and watch this Drone Video of the event by David Cox.

And if you don’t want to take the plunge, come on down and cheer on those brave plungers! This event, co-sponsored by the Harbor Lounge, Yolqueria and the 8 Dyer Hotel will feature a quick dip in the harbor followed by warm-up cocktails and chili at Harbor Lounge. There will be a DJ, music and a guest emcee, as well as coffee, tea, hot chocolate.

Champagne & Fireworks Viewing: Pilgrim Monument

What: Watch the New Year fireworks display from the highest location in Provincetown. The monument grounds overlook Provincetown Harbor, where the fireworks will be appear, so there’s no better view! The event includes champagne, wine, oysters and hors d’oeuvres.

First Light New Year Food Court

What: Planning to watch the New Year’s Day fireworks in Provincetown? Then come to the Crown & Anchor courtyard for the First Light Food Court. The food court will provide lively entertainment, delicious comfort foods, and many beverage choices from 4 – 6:30 pm. The Crown’s waterfront pool deck is the perfect place to watch the fireworks over the harbor! For those less hearty, you can always watch in the warmth from the windows in Wave bar.

First Light Provincetown Fireworks

Come see a New Year’s Eve fireworks display that will light up Provincetown Harbor! Fireworks will be launched from MacMillan Pier, but visible multiple locations.

Looking for a warm place to watch the fireworks? 

  • Crown & Anchor: The Crown is hosting a food court from 4:30 – 6, and the Paramount and the Wave Bar have a great harbor view. There’s plenty of room and guaranteed to be warm!
  • Restaurants: If reservations are still available, the restaurants listed below will provide you a nice view, warmth and food! The Harbor Lounge also has a wonderful view.
  • Harbor Hotel Parking Lot: If you don’t mind a distant view, the Harbor Hotel parking lot provides a clear unobstructed view of the harbor. | Directions
