About the Performance

From the Outer Cape Chorale and Chamber Singers

“Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria is an exciting, jubilant choral work accompanied by sparkling orchestral passages.  Filled with driving rhythms, and fiery vocal lines, the work is beloved by lovers of popular music as well as those who love classical music.  Audiences will find themselves tapping their toes and reveling in beautiful solo melodic phrases as the piece winds its way through the traditional Latin text.  Vivaldi, known as the Red Priest for his fiery red hair, composed the work while composer in residence for the all-girls orphanage, Pieta.  A popular programming choice for the Christmas season, this piece is sure to please!

“In addition, the concert will present secular ditties popular during the Baroque Era.  Known as ‘catches’, the ditties will be sung in the style of a round prompting the audience to join in if they choose!

“The concert will conclude with excerpts from Messiah by George Frederick Handel.  These favorites are always welcome during the holiday season and, yes, the Outer Cape Chorale will include the famous Hallelujah Chorus!”
