What is Whale Week?

Each year, the Center for Coastal Studies sponsors a fun-filled week for adults and kids to raise awareness about these marvelous mammals and the important work of this Provincetown organization.

Get to the Bottom Of It!

Become a junior marine biologist at this hands-on program designed for kids age 5 – 12.

Use a plankton tow to collect tiny marine creatures then take an up close and personal look under the microscope. Learn how and why the biggest animals in the ocean depend on the smallest animals to survive!

  • When: Mon, 7/31 – Thu, 8/3 at 1 pm at 9 am
  • Location: SEA Space, 333R Commercial Street (behind the Squealing Pig).
  • Cost:$3.00. Reservations recommended

Marine Discovery Hour

This week’s theme will be WHALES of course!  Join us once or each day to learn different aspects of the world of whales.  This program is designed for kids ages 7-12, but also anyone who wants to find out more.

  • When: Mon, 7/31 – Thu, 8/3 at 11 am
  • Location: SEA Space, 333R Commercial Street (behind the Squealing Pig).
  • Cost: $3.00 donation suggested. Registration not required.

Whale Week Amazing Race 3

CCS, in partnership with the Pilgrim Monument and Museum, presents a fun, family friendly version of The Amazing Race.

Teams of up to 4 people will compete in a race that takes in some of Provincetown’s iconic locations, while learning about the rich marine history of the town.

  • When: Tues, August 1 at 10 am
  • Location: All over Provincetown!
  • Cost: $30.00 per team of up to 4 people. Includes admission to Pilgrim monument for entire day!
  • Registration: Registration required. Register at the CCS kiosk on MacMillan Pier on Race Day.

Build Your Own Home Made Boat

Join us on the beach in front of the Crown and Anchor to build your own boat in preparation for the Home Made Boat Race on Thursday.  Marine debris collected throughout the year will be available for anyone to come and use for their boat. Remember all boats made only from trash score high on ingenuity points!

Lecture: Whales of Cape Cod

 Home Made Boat Race

The Home Made Boat Race highlights the issue of marine debris in our ocean. Use whatever you can to build a vessel that will get you to the finish line! Prizes will be awarded.

Pre-registration is required. Register by contacting Venture Athletics Water Sports at 508-487-9442 or Jesse Mechling at 508-487-3623 x 103. Please download your Registration form, Pledge Sheet and a copy of the Rules and Regulations.

  • When: Thu, 8/3 at 5 pm (Rain date Fri, 8/4 at 5pm)
  • Location: Beach behind Whaler’s Wharf
  • Cost:$50 minimum donation to enter.

Whale Games 2017

Marine themed games and competitions for kids of all ages 5-12.  Arts and crafts activities.

  • Where: Bas Relief, 106 Bradford St (opposite Town Hall) | Directions
  • Cost: Free. Registration not required.
