Provincetown this Week: Aug 11 – 18

It’s Carnival Week – the biggest and busiest week of the season in Ptown! The week will culminate on Thursday with the Carnival Parade.

This year’s theme is Gods and Goddesses, with several events to wear a theme costume. Check out our Carnival 2017 Costume Inspiration page for some ideas!

Carnival Parade, Thu, 8/17

Gods and Goddesses Theme

Join the tens of thousands who line the street, cheering and enjoying the fun–music, candy and necklaces thrown from floats, and wild costumes. This year’s theme – Gods and Goddesses – is rich in costume options. At the end of the parade, next year’s Carnival theme will be announced.

Carnival Dance Toga Party
Great Hall of Gods & Goddesses

This dance party is the biggest of the week with special performances by the Carnival Grand Marshalls:

  • Big Freedia is a New Orleans-based rapper and ambassador of Bounce music, a vibrant twist on hip-hop. Bounce music mixes call-and-response lyrics over beats and booty-shaking. Read more
  • Alex Newell, singer, performer and TV star of Glee, brings his clean, joyful voice to the party!
  • DJ Citizen Jane, Miami’s South Beach DJ, is sure to have everyone up on their feet.

Awards for Best Toga Costume and the decorations include living statues!

Who: Comedian Margaret Cho kicks off with Carnival week’s festivities with her new comedy show, Fresh Off the Boat. There’s only one show, at Provincetown Town Hall on Saturday, August 12, and tickets are going fast.
