Memorial Day is when Provincetown comes alive after a winter slumber and kicks off the summer season. You have your choice of music, comedy and drag performers, and the art galleries all are open for the season.

The Provincetown ferries are running daily: The ferries are the fastest, easiest and by far the most relaxing way to get to Provincetown.

Not only is it Memorial Day Weekend, but everything opens–shops, performances, restaurants and activities. This weekend also kicks off the Friday Night Gallery Stroll, where many of the galleries will be featuring their opening season show.  Tea Dance is also now running weekends with a special Monday Tea Dance.

It may even be warm enough for a day at the beach, kayaking, or paddle boarding. And Memorial Day in Provincetown is a great time to explore the nature beauty of Provincetown. There are plenty of tour options: Whale Watching, Dune Tours, Trolley Tour, and Bike Tours.

Women’s Memorial Day Weekend

So what is Women’s Memorial Day Weekend? Thousands of women from all over the country visit Provincetown for a week of enjoying the beach and dancing at a host of parties and other social events. Memorial Day is the highlight of Women’s Week!

And while you’re out at the beach, maybe you want to make a bonfire! We’ve got all the information you need to plan ahead.

Who: Folk-rock singer/songwriter Melissa Ferrick is an eight-time Boston Music Award winner and regarded by the industry and her peers as one of the most prolific and hardworking artists in the business. She has shared the stage with Morrissey, Marc Cohn, Paul Westerberg, Dwight Yoakam, John Hiatt, Weezer, Tegan and Sara, G-Love & Special Sauce, Bob Dylan, Dan Bern, Ani DiFranco, k.d. Lang, Suzanne Vega, Shawn Colvin, Joan Armatrading, Mike Doughty, The Indigo Girls and many others. Melissa is also a part-time Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Drag Shows

The Crown and Anchor has plenty of entertainment options this weekend. The glorious grand ladies of Illusions return with their show of glamour, comedy, and popular songs in a Las Vegas-style drag revue. Thirsty Burlington also returns with The Cher Show, with live vocal and plenty of costume changes. Last but not least, Provincetown’s own Liza Lott brings her live vocal show, Minnelli: The Legend, to the Crown. All shows have performances on Saturday and Sunday.

At the Pilgrim House, Miss Richfield begins her summer run with her new show, Gender Fluids.

Comedy Shows

Julie Wheeler plays at the Crown and Anchor on Friday, 5/24 and Sunday, 5/26. TimeOut NY claims “…Wheeler gives you a lot to like….” This fast-paced show takes comedic aim at current events and is anchored by Wheeler’s amazing musical talents. Known for her sultry voice and quirky comedy, this show has it all! Come see why Curve calls Julie “…the total package…!”

The Pilgrim House features comic AB Cassidy, performing on Sat, 5/25 and Sun, 5/26. Known for her unique observational storytelling and ability to riff, AB Cassidy is a crowd favorite for any audience. She’s toured featuring for Jeff Garcia and has performed alongside other comedic legends such as Bill Burr, Tig Notaro, and Carlos Mencia. In addition to her comedy, AB Cassidy is an actor, and writer. Her latest feature film, Lez Bomb, is now streaming on Netflix and co-stars Kevin Pollack and Cloris Leachman.

August: Osage County

What: Winner of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for Best New Play, August: Osage County centers around the Weston family, brought together after their patriarch, world-class poet and alcoholic Beverly Weston, disappears. The matriarch, Violet, depressed and addicted to pain pills and “truth-telling,” is joined by her three daughters and their problematic lovers.

Holed up in the large family estate in Osage County, Oklahoma, tensions heat up and boil over in the ruthless August heat. Bursting with humor, vivacity, and intelligence, August: Osage County is is both dense and funny, vicious and compassionate, enormous and unstoppable.
