The Soul Sessions

What: The Soul Sessions promises to party like it’s 1968! Set in a subterranean Greenwich Village club, The Soul Session pays tribute to the urban soul music clubs of the late 1960s and early 70’s. This original cabaret-styled musical mixes an experiential theater adventure, where an outrageous cast of characters mix and mingle with the show’s audience.  The multi-Grammy nominated soul-funk band, The GroovaLottos, provides the funky musical background. Presented by Oversoul Theatre Collective (OTC).

Sweeney Todd

What: Love! Lust! Revenge!

Composer/lyricist Stephen Sondheim’s musical masterpiece, Sweeney Todd is lush, operatic, full of soaring beauty, pitch-black comedy and stunning terror. A musical thriller, Sweeney Todd tells the unsettling tale of a Victorian-era barber who returns home to London after fifteen years of exile to take revenge on the corrupt judge who ruined his life. When revenge eludes him, Sweeney swears vengeance on the entire human race, murdering as many people as he can, while his business associate, Mrs. Lovett, bakes the victims into meat pies and sells them to the unsuspecting public who can’t seem to get enough of her tasty fare.

Directed by David Drake. Music Direction by John Thomas

Cabaret

What: This beloved musical is set in 1931 Berlin and shows the nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub. The play focuses on American writer Cliff Bradshaw and his relationship with Sally Bowles, an English cabaret performer, who he meets at the boarding house where they are both staying. The Master of Ceremonies at the Kit Kat Klub keeps the singing and dancing moving, but the goings on at the club foreshadow the ominous political developments in late Weimar Germany.
